Don’t Tell My Daughter to Be “Nice”
Please don’t tell my daughter – or me – to be “nice”. I find it condescending and dismissive, as if we women (“girls”) should just shut up and go sit and smile and look pretty from the corner. We couldn’t possibly have anything of value to contribute. <sarcasm…>
Perhaps the history of the word, and what it implies/demands, is why I find it so offensive.
Do you have gender bias in your language or work policies? (Probably…) What are you going to do about it?
