Why Sexual Harassment Training is Mandatory
What are your office sexual harassment policies saying?
Not “What are your policies?” but “How do your policies impact the people who work there?”
Are your trainings simply boxes to check off each year for compliance? Or are you diving into psychological safety and how people feel in your workplace? How do you ask about their feelings of safety? How are changes made and communicated?
Do you tell women to dress in a certain way (or to not dress in a certain way), or do you tell men what appropriate and inappropriate behaviors are – and take action when rules and guidelines are violated? Have you looked into policies for same-sex harassment and harassment of transgender workers?
Does your workplace have a system for addressing grievances in a private yet thorough way?
