Does One Degree Matter?
Americans are more disillusioned with the benefits of having a college degree than in the past. It seems that degrees used to be pursued out of love for academic enlightenment, working toward a goal for which one has great passion. Now, it feels like the goal is just to get a degree because that's how you achieve “success” (generally in the form of money or power) – or you “have to have one” in order to get the job you want. More people than ever are also pursuing and earning degrees, so perhaps they are worth less, relatively speaking.
